Today, September 12, 2026, the Russian Orthodox Parochial School at Holy Transfiguration Church solemnly opened the 2026–2027 academic year.
Parents and students gathered for the ceremonial welcome. The first day of class was a day of joy, prayer, and a shared beginning. After the summer break, the Fernwood Avenue campus once again filled with children’s voices, flowers, and warm greetings.
Father Ioann, Director of the Russian School of Los Angeles and priest of Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, delivered the solemn address. He congratulated the children and their families, recalled the meaning of Orthodox education, and spoke of the duty to keep the faith, the Russian language, history, and the living bond between generations here in America.
Founded in 1951 at the cathedral of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, the school continues that mission this year: Saturday classes from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; Scripture and Orthodox formation; Russian language and literature; history; music; and the life of the parish. Upon completing the full course of study, students are certified by the UCLA Center for World Languages.
We thank Father Ioann, the teachers, parent volunteers, and everyone who came to share this day. May the 2026–2027 school year be peaceful, diligent, and blessed.
